Lucasfilms sold to Disney, will release Episode 7 in 2015
I am completely shocked over this. Lucas sold it for $4.05 Billion. And Disney plans to release episode 7 in 2015. Completely and utterly shocked about that. I never thought I would see another Star Wars movie series again.

New Trailer And Poster For A Good Day To Die HardOk so a new trailer for A Good Day To Die Hard(Die Hard 5) has hit the web. This installment follows John to Russia for some reason. The movie looks ok but they probably should have quit while they were ahead. Also the new poster(to the left) looks like ass. You can view the trailer below.

Bryan Singer To Direct X-Men: Days Of Future Past?
It has been reported that Matthew Vaughn who directed X-Men: First Class will not be returning to do the sequel. Although he is an unfortunate loss for the film, it comes with some good news. Bryan Singer, the director of the first two X-Men films will possibly return to the director's chair for a potential Sentinal-based film. Good news all around!

The International Poster For Kimberly Pierce's Upcoming Carrie Film!
Director Kimberly Pierce is currently working on the remake of Carrie based off the novel by Stephen King. The film stars Chloe Moretz(Kick-Ass) and Julianne Moore(The Kids Are Alright). This is the international poster for the film. It's nothing all that spectacular but the film looks like it will be heading in the right direction.

First Image From Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Remake!
The Sam Raimi-produced Evil Dead remake will be hitting theatres on April 12, 2013. We finally have our first image(left) from the film. In my opinion it looks fairly good. I'm glad that they are trying to recapture some of the great stuff from the first movie. Let's hope this true for the rest of the film.

J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel to be called Into Darkness
The follow up to the extremely successful Star Trek reboot/alternate timeline from J.J. Abram’s will be called Into Darkness. It is a pretty good title. I loved the first film and am eagerly awaiting the second installment. The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unknown villain (possibly Khan but I hope not).

Frightfest Fridays
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The film which you are about to see is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five youths, in particular Sally Hardesty and her invalid brother, Franklin. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that day. For them an idyllic summer afternoon drive became a nightmare. The events of that day were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
In what I consider to be the best horror movie of all time, young Sally and her wheelchair bound brother Franklin, along with some friends, decide to visit the house of their grandfather after the occurance of some bizarre grave robberies in Texas. This goes horribly wrong when the group encounters a crazed, developmentally disabled man(who has come to be known as Leatherface) with a chainsaw(played by Gunnar Hansen). It appears he is wearing someone’s face as a mask. Sally soon finds out that Leatherface has a cannibalistic family who may be even crazier than he is. They catch her and torture her for the rest of the night.
Director Tobe Hooper did a FANTASTIC job on this film. The major underlying theme of the film seems to be the state of the American family. The major questions it asks are “what kind of things would you do for your family?”, “What kind of impact does your family have on your life?”, “Can family mislead you?” ,“Do they take advantage of you?”. I think the ultimate question it asks is: “should you trust in stangers?”. This theme is especially apparent when Sally runs toward a house where she believes she will find help and ends up being tortured for the remainder of the night.
Beyond the themes we can discuss the excellent use of camera shots in this film. From shaky camera movements to shots of Sally’s twitching, terrified eyes. The way the film is shot makes you feel completely uneasy.
The setting of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre helps as well. The victims run through the dark rural area with little more than a flashlight and have absolutely nowhere to run to.
The original Texas Chainsaw is chilling and horrific and should be highly regarded as one of the best slasher films of all time.

Slither and Super Director James Gunn to write and direct Guardians Of The Galaxy for Marvel
I have never seen either Slither or Super (although I do plan to see both) but I trust that James Gunn has the good to get this film done. He also casts Nathan Fillion in roles in his movies so we have hopes he will be in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie possibly?? I don’t want to start that rumor or speculation (that is what twitter is for) but would love to see it. To learn more about James Gunn check out his Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Gunn_(filmmaker). He seems to have a thing for Raccoon's and well Guardians of the Galaxy has a raccoon in it.

The Evil Dead
The Sam Raimi-produced horror film The Possession has hit theatres to admittedly unfavourable reviews. I wanted to take this “opportunity” to discuss the film that got him his start in the film industry: The Evil Dead.
The Evil Dead was a low budget horror film that Sam Raimi directed in 1981. It is a fun, but ridiculously stupid film that has gathered quite the cult following.
The movie follows a group of young people who travel to a cabin in the woods. They play a tape of incantations that release demons that end up possessing them.
Bruce Campbell plays the lead role of Ash who’s girlfriend and sister both get possessed. He ends up being the last one left to fend off the demons on his own.
The film’s gore and special effects are great for the time and are thoroughly enjoyable. There’s also a great(although random) scene where someone gets attacked by the trees in the woods.
Evil Dead is quite atmospheric and the camera angles and movements definitely aid the film in this area.
If you like old, cheesy, gorey, fun horror films and haven’t already seen Evil Dead, you should because it’s right up your alley.

First Full Trailer For Texas Chainsaw 3D
Ok so it's here! The first full trailer for the upcoming sequel(a film that completely disregards the other sequels and remakes in the franchise) to Tobe Hooper's original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My thoughts on the trailer are kind of mixed. I feel that the movie could be either really good or really bad. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Rants and Raves of a Fan Boy- This Summer's Comic Book Adaptions
So this year we have had 3 pretty awesome Comic Book adapted movies hit the big screen. We had Marvel’s The Avengers, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-man and Warner Brothers The Dark Knight Rises. I enjoyed all three films and am glad that both The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises have made over a Billion dollars world wide. The Amazing Spider-man has made $735 million worldwide which is a lot of money for any normal Comic Book movie but is disappointing for a Spider-man film since all of Sam Raimi’s films have made more than it. I think that has a lot to do with the fans not wanting a reboot so soon after the Raimi films. I think that hurt the overall box office. It did have decent reviews and I really enjoyed the film.
This will probably go down as the most lucrative summer of Comic Book adapted films due to the big 3 bringing in over $3 Billion dollars world wide in combined box office receipts. All 3 were also well received by the critics with The Avengers having a 92% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes, The Dark Knight Rises had an 87% and The Amazing Spider-man had a 73% Fresh rating.
The Dark Knight Rises was a good way to finish off the trilogy and Christopher Nolan has proven that he can make a gripping crime drama style super hero. I enjoyed all three of his films and was glad that Nolan was able to keep a consistent vision for all three films. I do not think these films are perfect but I did enjoy them none the less. I am not the biggest Batman fan out there, to tell you the truth I really couldn’t care much about his character one way or another, but I do support the films.
I was very skeptical about The Amazing Spider-man. I do not read the Ultimates universe and I am pretty protective of Spider-man since he is one of my favourite Comic Book characters. I went in not really looking forward to this film. And after my first viewing I enjoyed it. I saw it again a few days later and I loved the film. I do admit there are things that frustrated me, and things that I wish they had done differently. But I did like the tone of the film and I am really looking forward to see where this new franchise will go.
And now on to the Avengers, how do you make a film that incorporates characters that have already been in 5 other separate films. How do you create a film that will have all of these major characters and give them adequate screen time? How do you make the story compelling and also make it entertaining for all? The answer is, you hire Joss Whedon to write and direct it. I have been a Whedon fan for many a year. I have watched every Television show he has created and also watched Serenity, and I knew he had it in him to make a great film. I have also read his comics so I knew he had it in him to make a great Comic Book film. But I did not expect him to make a movie THIS fantastic. I loved every moment of the movie. I did not find one minute of wasted screen time. I have seen it 8 times in the theatre and found little things I loved each time. He was able to make it fun, funny, entertaining, action filled, and able to do it and give EVERY character justice. He also was able to make his version of The Hulk, the best version put on film so far. I still think this film will go down as my favourite film of all time.
I will find it very hard for any year to top this year as the Great Comic Book Film Adaption year. Next years crop are Iron Man 3, The Man of Steel and Thor: The Dark World. I am looking forward to all 3, but they will be hard pressed to top this years three.

Scream
Seeing as actress Rose McGowan attended Toronto’s Fan Expo last weekend I will be discussing the 1996 slasher film Scream. McGowan stars as Tatum, heroin Sidney Prescott’s best friend who has a noteable death scene involving the garage door of her boyfriend’s house.
The film stars Neve Campbell as Sidney, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, David Arquette as Deputy Dewey, Jamie Kennedy as Randy, and Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich as killers Stu and Billy.
One year after the murder of her mother Maureen, Sidney is being stalked and attacked by a killer in a ghost costume(eventually named Ghostface). Throughout the story Sidney and the others(despite their differences) attempt to figure out who the killer is as their friends get slaughtered one by one.
Directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson, Scream intends to analyze the horror genre, clearly stating that “there are rules that must be followed in order to survive a horror film”. It seems for a portion of the film that film is going to break those rules but eventually it ends up doing just as it should and follows them.
Sidney proves to be one of the best horror heroins ever as she kicks ass in nearly every scene where she is brawling with Ghostface. At the time, Scream was considered quite violent and gory. It took the slasher genre into a new territory.
Drew Barrymore also gets one of the best death scenes in the horror genre as Ghostface's first on-screen victim.
Scream became a blockbuster horror franchise and had two financially successful sequels, and one that didn’t do so well. In my opinion all four films are well done and should be taken mostly as great entertainment.

Top Ten Tuesdays
Top 10 Favourite Scientist Characters
Christopher Lloyd recently appeared at Toronto's Fan Expo 2012 late last week. This week's Top Ten Tuesdays list is dedicated in his honour!
10. Dr. Walter Bishop(Fringe)He’s possibly one of the strangest scientists on TV at the
moment. He’s quite unintentionally funny and feels alienated amongst society,
which is what makes him so quirky. Walter Bishop is caring and loveable, but
his crazy, albeit important and effectual experiments are one of the big
reasons he makes my list. The man also created a way to travel to another
universe. Not many people can top that.
9. Dr. Octopus(The Spider-Man Franchise)Doc Ock is a criminal mastermind who has tried to kill Spider-Man many, many times, although he was unsuccessful. He has four mechanical limbs attached to his spine that make him especially deadly. The evil Otto Octavius even married Peter Parker’s Aunt May. Talk about weird… Dr. Octopus has proven to be a threat to Spider-Man since the beginning.
8. Dr. Zoidberg(Futurama)Possibly the strangest character on the list, Dr. Zoidberg has connected to Futurama’s audience since it started in 2000. He is incredibly weird looking and strange to listen to. His methods are odd, even in the year 3000. Did I mention the fact that he’s also hilarious.
7. Dexter(Dexter's Lab)Any kid who lived in the late 90’s and early 2000’s pretty much LOVED Dexter’s Lab. It was a cartoon about a boy genius who had a secret lab, which his sister(DEE DEE!), despite his distain, was also able to get into. He would create starnge contraptions and set up fun experiments and we ate it up.
6. The Brain(Pinky And The Brain)I’ve never been a fan of Will Ferrell but every now and again he will surprsise me ad come out with something like this. Ferrell and co-star John C. Reilly play grown up step brothers who still live with the parents and don’t get along. As much as I thought the white dog poo scene was disgusting it was utterly hilarious.
5. Dr. Emmett Brown(Back To The Future Series)Back To The Future’s Dr. Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, is eccentric. He and Marty McFly develop a real bromance over the course of the films. Doc’s behavior is perhaps summarized best in the opening sequence of the film, which displays a bunch of his inventions making a rather huge mess.
4. Dr. Alan Grant(Jurassic Park Series)Alan Grant is the first father-figure kind of character to make this list. He displays that despite his lack of interest in kids he sure can take care of them, even in the worst of situations. The paleontologist, is brought to Isla Nublar to take a tour of an amusement park, which features real live Dinosaurs. Then everything goes to hell. Perhaps Dr. Grant displays more than anyone else on this list that knowledge truly is power.
3. Agent(Dr.) Dana Scully(The X-Files)In my opinion this is the best of the Judd Apatow comedy features. The film stars Jonah Hill and Michael Sarah who are awesome in their respective roles as Seth and Evan. I think what makes this movie so awesome is it probably reminds me more of my high school experience than any other movie. It is so much about who’s cool and who’s not but focuses a little more on a bunch of social clicks that are welcoming to eachother. In most other movies the nerds wouldn’t be invited to the party. Christopher Mintz-Plasse also does a fantastic job in this movie as Fogul A.K.A. McLovin.
2. Bunsen And Beaker(The Muppets)I seriously think I don’t need to justify this one.
1. Peter Parker/ Spider-ManPeter Parker was always interested in science. He created his own web shooters, helped to develop different serums and potions to varying degrees. And always used his knowledge of chemistry to his advantage. He is one of the more relatable scientist characters and for this I think he deserves to be at the top of the list. Everyone wants to be as smart and as kind as Spider-Man and looks up to him as a hero.

Sad Sequels
The Halloween Franchise
John Carpenter will be appearing at Toronto’s Fan Expo this year so I thought it would be cool to discuss the sequels to one of his most successful movies, Halloween. Carpenter originally had no plans for a sequel to 1978’s Halloween but the ending seemed almost so wide open that it seems almost necessary for a second part.
Halloween II featured the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance. The film was directed by Phil Rosenthal, but was written by John Carpenter and his writing partner from the first movie, Debra Hill. The movie was about the aftermath of the first film. Laurie Strode(Curtis) ends up in the hospital. Michael Myers got up and walked away after being shot six times by his psychiatrist Dr. Loomis(Pleasance). Loomis continues to try and find Michael before more lives are taken. This is the second-best film in the franchise but a few Sad Sequels were to follow.
The first of which, was Halloween III. John Carpenter and Debra Hill produced the film along with the series’ main producer Moustapha Akkad and others. John thought of the Halloween series as an anthology series, with each sequel following Halloween II to have a different story. In III the plot is about a mask company who uses their masks to kill children. Unfortunately a lot of people did not enjoy the film and it continues to be a true low point in the series. This is mainly due to the popularity that Michael Myers achieved in the first two films. Halloween III was rather boring at times. I haven’t seen the movie in a few years now. Perhaps the film would be better if I viewed it as something other than a Halloween movie.
Moving on to Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers. In this film Michael Myers returns(due to popular demand). Although John Carpenter did not have a hand in the creation of this film his producing partner from the first three films, Moustapha Akkad, returned and decided it was necessary to bring Michael Myers back. In the film Michael is back in Haddonfield to kill his niece Jamie(the daughter of Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode), who is played by young Danielle Harris. Donald Pleasance returns in this film, although visibly suffering from the events at the end of the second film. He once again tries to track Michael down and stop the ensuing violence. The fourth installment is quite well done for a horror sequel so late in the series. It also, has a pretty awesome little twist at the end of the film
Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers was another sequel that wasn’t horrible but was kind of boring at points. And it seemingly ignores the twist at the end of the fourth film. After being shot at at the end of Halloween 4 Michael continues on his quest to kill young Jamie who seems to have telepathy to some degree, is a mute, and is being spending time at a pscychiatric facility. There is also a strange figure(other than Michael) who is walking the streets of Haddonfield who helps Michael to escape his jail cell at the end of the film.
The sixth part in the Halloween series, The Curse Of Michael Myers, is a complete waste of time and effort, and an utter snoozefest featuring Paul Rudd as a grown-up Tommy Doyle and a cult that worships Michael Myers. Oh, and Mikey continues his murderous rampage.
Halloween: H20 was a bit more refreshing and is the second-best sequel(in my opinion) to the series. The film takes place twenty years after the events of the first film. Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role of Laurie Strode for the first time since Halloween II. Unfortunately, Dr. Loomis has died by this point in time and Michael is back yet again(I say that with a smile on my face). Michael tracks Laurie(who has been in hiding and teaching at a private school under an alias) and her son John down. Her greatest fears have finally caught up to her and she realizes that she must be the one to finally kill her brother Michael. She chops his head off. The film gives us many homages to the original Halloween.
But then we get to the second-worst(arguably) film in the series, Halloween: Resurrection.
This movie is a complete piece of trash. It turns out that Michael didn’t really get his head chopped off at the end of the last film and he comes back and kills Laurie Strode in the first five minutes. Then returns to Haddonfield for some reason. A bunch of college kids are involved in a web documentary where they must stay the night in the old Michael Myers house for one night. The movie is completely and utterly dumb even for an eighth film in a slasher series. Oh, and Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks gave mind-blowing performances(I say this in the worst possible way).
After that mess it was time for the franchise to be remade!(Like everything else in the last couple years). Luckily I enjoyed this one on a second viewing. Metal musician Rob Zombie was hired to direct the remake and made it completely white trash and gave Michael more of a back story(which wasn’t needed). He had a fairly likeable cast at his disposal including Malcolm McDowell(A Clockwork Orange) as Dr. Loomis, Danielle Harris(who played Jamie in Halloween 4 and 5) and Scout Taylor-Compton as the new Laurie Strode. The film was well put together, so a sequel was greenlit.
Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 is up there with the worst films I have ever seen. He completely twisted the storyline and destroyed everything that was accomplished with his first Halloween. He turned Dr. Loomis into a complete asshole and Laurie Strode into a whiney little b****. And Michael kept seeing a hallucination(?) of his mother with a white horse. The film was ridiculously brutal in terms of violence and made no sense. The only redeeming quality this movie has is the opening scene of Laurie and Michael at the hospital.
And that’s the Halloween franchise in a nutshell. I hope you will be able to avoid Halloween: Resurrection and Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 now. Trust me I just saved you a good three hours or so.

Frightfest Fridays
Halloween(1978)
Director John Carpenter will be making an appearance this year at Toronto’s Fan Expo. I was initially going to discuss Halloween at a later date but thought “to hell with it”.
John Carpenter’s Halloween may not have been the first slasher flick but it was arguably the slasher flick that gave birth to the slasher movie trend in the ‘80s.
The first thing I must discuss is the classic theme music. The music, along with Jamie Lee Curtis’ performance, is what makes the film quite chilling. It creates a great sense of urgency which I feel is unparalleled in the horror genre to date. The song makes you feel scared for the young Laurie Strode(Curtis).
Jamie Lee Curtis gives us possibly the performance of her career and is still in my opinion the scream queen. Her portrayal of Laurie Strode is excellent. Most other horror heroins do not come close to what this character achieved in terms of relatability. You truly feel sorry for this girl as she is stalked by the prolific horror villain Michael Myers.
One by one Michael kills her friends as she babysits little Tommy Doyle and Lindsey Wallace.
Michael’s story himself is quite mysterious as well. In the beginning of the film the six year-old who murders his sister is sent to a psychiatric hospital where he is under the care of Dr. Samuel Loomis(played marvelously by Donald Pleasance). Loomis realizes over the years that Michael is pure evil and when he escapes the institution Loomis tries to track him down before all the madness ensues.
In my opinion this is one of the best horror films ever created. It’s eerie and was quite groundbreaking at the time of it’s release. I think another thing that makes the film work is the love that the audience may have for most of the characters. And some really interesting death scenes.

"Marty McFly Is Darth Vader"
I thought it would be really awesome this week to show a clip from Back To The Future in honour of Christopher Lloyd's upcoming appearance at Toronto's Fan Expo. In this clip Marty Mcfly(Michael J. Fox) combines sci-fi franchises from the future and the music of Van Halen to give his father George McFly(Crispin Glover) a "nightmare".

Top Ten Tuesdays
Top 10 Favourite Comedy Movies
With the recent release of the new film The Campaign starring Will Ferrell and Zac Galifianakis I decided to count down my top 10 Favourite Comedy films! Check out the list below!
10. Airplane! The late great Leslie Neilson made a great comedic impression in this film. The spoof film is a tremendously great at making the audience laugh at completely stupid humour. The film is a classic and will hopefully be remembered as ones for years to come.
9. Home AloneAs a kid I laughed so hard every time Kevin McCallister messed with the two wet bandits, turning them into human-chickens and the like. Can I say that part of what makes this film so funny is Joe Pesci(who plays wet bandit Harry). It’s more about how he says and does things than the actual assault he has a knack for receiving. One of the best scenes also, is when Marv(Daniel Stern) gets hit in the fave with an iron.
8. Wayne's World The opening to this film is completely unforgettable as the
gang sings along in their car to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. The film may not be
the funniest film ever made but some of it’s comedic moments may make other
films grovel and say “We are not worthy!”. Let’s also make sure we give some
credit where it is due, to the actors. Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, and Rob Lowe
are all awesome in their roles.
7. Mrs. Doubtfire“Ooh hello dear!!!”. This is perhaps one of Robin Williams’ best roles ever. When Daniel loses custody of his kids in a divorce he dresses as a female housekeeper in order to stay close to them. Of course his pan doesn’t go quite as expected. The hilarity ensues as he throws fruit at people’s head, defends himself against muggers, and deals with everyday situations as a woman.
6. Step BrothersI’ve never been a fan of Will Ferrell but every now and again he will surprsise me ad come out with something like this. Ferrell and co-star John C. Reilly play grown up step brothers who still live with the parents and don’t get along. As much as I thought the white dog poo scene was disgusting it was utterly hilarious.
5. Role ModelsSeann William Scott and Paul Rudd are excellent comedic team in this film but much of it’s laughs come from Christopher Mintz-Plasse and the young Bobb’e J. Thompson. Oh, and Jane Lynch also has some really awesome
scenes in the movie. The scenes near the end at the L.A.I.R.E.(Live Action
Interactive Roleplaying Explorers) game are incredible and will never be forgotten
in my mind.
4. Austin Powers In GoldmemberThe movie is just awesome. You can’t tell me you didn’t laugh at some of Fat Bastard and Goldmember’s scenes. Michael Caine also joins the cast as Austin Powers’ FAJA! He is terrific in the role. The film also includes an awesome scene with Nathan Lane.
3. SuperbadIn my opinion this is the best of the Judd Apatow comedy features. McLovin.
2. American PieAmerican Pie is awesome just because it’s one of the few films that really shows just how awkward people are in their teenage years, especially when it comes to their sexuality. The movie featured some pretty vulgar scenes for the time. All the characters in American Pie are relatable and will hold a special pplace in my heart for years.
1. Dumb And DumberIn my opinion Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are one of the best comedy teams to ever grace the silver screen. They are just SO stupid in this film, buit it works. Harry and Llloyd get themselves into some really awesome situations, such as selling a blind child a dead bird and throwing a salt shaker at an angry trucker.

Sad Sequels
Joel Schumacher's Batman Movies
Tim Burton did a fantastic job bringing a dark Batman to the screen back in 1989 and again for the sequel, Batman Returns, in 1992.
Then all his work went down the drain after he declined to return for a third installment. As a result Michael Keaton, who was Burton’s Bruce Wayne/Batman dropped out of the project. He also stated that he did not like the direction the new sequel Batman Forever would take when Joel Schumacher took over in the director’s chair.
Batman Forever, although not a horrible film, was nowhere near what was accomplished in the first two installments. It had a lighter tone and lots of flashy colours.
One thing about the film I thought was strange was despite the fact that Tommy Lee Jones did a good job as Two-Face, he was not a black man as the Harvey Dent who appeared briefly in the first film was. Just kind of random that he suddenly changed skin tones. Also, Two-Face seemed more like a side villain than a “big bad”, which is a little disappointing.
I feel that Jim Carrey would have made a great Riddler had the script not been so riddled with camp as it was. That’s really my only complaint about the character.
Val Kilmer was a solid Batman but not the best. Perhaps he was the best Bruce Wayne to date?
I thought Robin was fairly well done in the film. Chris O’Donnell was a pretty good choice for the role.
Moving on to the fourth film in the series, Batman & Robin. WOW this may just be one of the worst movies ever made. It’s so bad that it’s good.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, who may be completely wrong for his role as Mr. Freeze, just barks out embarrassing ice puns as the movie progresses(or doesn’t progress?).
Uma Thurman was cast as Poison Ivy. I believe she also would have been a great Ivy had the script not been so tremendously horribly written.
A third villain, Bane, is reduced to being a blundering buffoon of a character and only serves as Poison Ivy’s lackey which is just wrong.
Batirl who is supposed to be Barbara Gordon is actually the neice of Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred for some reason, and isn’t really all that impressive in any way.
Moving on to George Clooney(as Batman?), an actor who is supposed to be an A-lister was absolutely terrible in this. He has no depth at all and is possibly the campiest batman besides Adam West. Clooney even felt the need to apologize for this film, that’s how horrible it was.
I thought maybe I shouldn’t bring this up as it would be unoriginal but I’m gonna do it anyway: WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THE NIPPLES ON THE BATSUIT?!
Oh, and why does Batman have a Bat visa? Wouldn’t that be any easy way to track him?
Thanks Joel for giving us the two worst Batman movies ever.

Dead-Alive(A.K.A. Braindead)
A long time before director Peter Jackson worked on his popular Lord Of The Rings trilogy he directed a little film in New Zealand called Dead-Alive.
The story of the film is that a girl is destined to meet her true love after a tarot card reading reveals so. She finds him in the form of Lionel, a man who is heavily controlled by his mother.
An infected rat-monkey(a hybrid creature) is brought to the zoo where Lionel takes the girl, Paquita Maria Sanchez, on date. Lionel’s mother finds them at the zoo but is soon bitten by the rat-monkey and infected. The scene itself is quite gorey but is absolutely hysterically weird in some way.
At home Lionel’s mother goes through a traumatic experience as her skin starts to fall off. Some really awkward moments ensue. She becomes a zombie and the viruse spreads to others such as a nurse and a priest who “kicks ass in the name of the lord!”. Somehow the priest and the nurse have a baby zombie as well.
Lionel attempts to keep everything a secret but things start to spiral out of control and results in one of the biggest gore-fests in a horror film to date.
It’s a miracle that Lionel is able to keep the girl of his dreams after what he puts her through.
Yes, the movie is quite stupid but it can be a fun watch.

Ben Affleck May Direct Justice League Movie
I personally do not know how I feel about this. As of right now it's mostly just speculation but apparently there's a good chance Ben Affleck will be assigned to the Justice League film project. Ben Affleck has proven his directing abilities recenlty(especially with the well-received The Town). A Justice League film could hit theatres as early as 2015.

Sad Sequels
The Nightmare On Elm Street Series
Our new feature called “Sad Sequels” will discuss film franchises that have had some very disappointing sequels throughout the course of time.
As posted earlier this week horror director Wes Craven is currently working on a film project entitled Coming Of Rage so I thought it would be a good opportunity to look at one of the franchises that he started: The Nightmare On Elm Street Series.
The first sequel, entitled A Nightmare On Elm Street 2, really doesn’t make much sense in the first place. It was an ok movie that was basically there to make money and as much as I still enjoy the film it is a bit of a low poin in the series for me.
The third installment, A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, was the second film in the series to be written by Wes Craven. It brought about some new ideas such as “what would happen if these kids decided to use their dreams to fight Freddy instead of cowering in fear”. This one was one of the best in the series. It features some of the coolest death scenes in the franchise including the string puppet kill. Oh, and Robert Englund delivers one of his best performances as Freddy Krueger.
A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, took the premise of the third film and basically allowed one of Freddy’s victim’s to fight him with the powers of the other kids. The film has some bad moments but overall it’s an ok ride.
Now we move into the lowest dips in the series.
A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child is all about Freddy’s child being born to Alice from part 4. The movie is rather dull and just doesn’t achieve what the four previous installments did. Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare is most definitely the worst installment. With over-the-top kills that just seem ridiculous even in the Nightmare world, the film really drowns and even Robert Englund can’t save it. Maybe that’s due to his constant one-liners.
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare was just as dull as part five despite the fact that it marks Wes Craven, Heather Langenkamp, and Johnny Depp’s returns to the franchise. This one basically throws the continuity of the first six films out the window and brings about a suggestion that the first stix stories were really just movies.
Then we have Freddy Vs. Jason, which is an all-out brawl between Freddy and other 80s slasher Jason Voorhees of the Friday The 13th Franchise. This film is tremendously fun for me to watch and despite the fact that it plays with continuity it really is a blast.
Finally, the latest entry in the franchise is a complete remake of the original film and is the first time that Freddy Krueger was not played by Robert Englund but Jackie Earle Haley(Watchmen). The trailers for this film looked promising but the film dragged on too long and also showed a lack of imagination while trying to reimagine one of the best horror classics. Haley’s performance is hindered by the prosthetics and make-up on his face and he is nowhere near as dynamic as Robert Englund.
So that’s the Nightmare On Elm Street Sequels in a nut-shell. Despite the fact that it did have some poor films I enjoy the franchise as a whole and I hope that one day we can have another good A Nightmare On Elm Street film.

Frightfest Fridays
A Nightmare On Elm Street(1984)
Fright Fest Fridays is a new feature to our site, which will discuss a single horror film every week.
With director Wes Craven collaborating on a new project with comic book author Steve Niles, I thought it would be cool if the first film we talked about was one of Craven’s classics.
The film A Nightmare On Elm Street(1984) is most likely the man’s ultimate classic. The film stars Heather Langenkamp and a young Johnny Depp(in his very first feature film), and Robert Englund as the iconic Freddy Krueger. Craven also wrote the film.
The film is one slasher film that looks at the horror genre and asks “what if there was nowhere left to run to or hide?” and “what if the killer could catch you in your dreams?”. This is a frightful thought indeed.
The plot focuses on young Nancy, a teenager who’s friends have just been murdered in their sleep by the Springwood Slasher, Freddy Krueger who was a child killer(and potentially a molester) who was burned to death in a fire lit by the town’s parents. Nancy starts to see Freddy in her dreams and struggles to stay awake. Her family starts to think she is going nuts.
The original A Nightmare On Elm Street features some really interesting death scenes. Especially, Johnny Depp’s which in my opinion is one of the best horror death scenes of all time.
Robert Englund does a fantastic job in the film as the kids’ tormenter and is truly menacing. His portrayal of Freddy Krueger set the bar for slashers even higher during the 1980s and is still praised as one of the greatest horror villains of all time. There’s also a little chant that is spoken during the film that became quite iconic(1, 2 Freddy’s coming for you!)
So if you’re in the mood for an old school horror film, may I suggest A Nightmare On Elm Street?

Prometheus Sequel On The Way?
It has been revealed today that 20th Century Fox is planning on releasing a sci-fi thriller project in 2014 or 2015. It has not been officially announced but speculation insists that it is the follow-up to Ridley Scott's Alien prequel, Prometheus. This is highly likely as plans for a sequel were discussed before production of the first film began shooting and some of it's stars are contracted for more than one film including Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace.

Wes Craven And Steve Niles To Collaberate On Coming Of Rage
Wes Craven has been pretty quiet since the release and poor box office performance of Scream 4 but the horror icon is back to work and his new project is called Coming Of Rage. He will be working with comic book author Steve Niles. The film will also receive a comic book treatment.

John Leguizamo has been cast as Red Mist's bodyguard in the upcoming sequel to Kick-Ass, the comic book adaptation that starred Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Nicolas Cage, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. They shall return for the new film.
You may remember Leguizamo as the clown from Spawn or even his more kid friendly role of the voice of Sid the sloth in Ice Age.

X-Men: First Class Sequel May Feature The Sentinals!!!!!
There are rumours that 20th Century Fox has purchased the web URL DaysOfFuturePast.com and have titled the upcoming X-Men First Class sequel X-Men: Days Of Future Past after the two-issue story arc which follows the X-Men into an alternate future. The alternate future takes place after the Brotherhood Of Mutants kills a senator. In the future The Sentinals(massive and dangerous robots) hunt down mutants.
I have wanted to see The Sentinals since the very first X-Men movie came out and I can't wait to see where this project goes with this particular story arc.

Trailer For Horror Film Chained
Chained is a straight-to-dvd release from director Jennifer Lynch. I saw this trailer and thought this looks rather interesting. The DVD is set for release on October 2nd. It looks like it is rather violent and kind of disturbing so if you do not like horror films of this sort then I would think twice about watching the trailer :P
Anne Hathaway Has Interest In A Catwoman Spin-Off
After doing an excellent job as Christopher Nolan's version of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway has stated that she would be interested in seeing more of the character if it were in the right hands. This is what she had to say:
"I think it would be lovely to see more of her but only if it's with the right people," Hathaway said. "She lives in this Gotham City and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least."

Finding Nemo Sequel Is In The Works
I was never a huge fan of the first film but many consider the original Finding Nemo to be one of Pixar's best films. The film starred Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, and Alexander Gould. The upcoming sequel is supposed to follow their characters Marlin, Dory, and Nemo as the first film did. A writer, Victoria Strouse, has been hired to work on the film, which has a potential 2016 release date.

Anthony Mackie Possibly Playing The Falcon In Captain America: The Winter Soldier
As anyone that knows me can tell you, I am a huge Captain America fan. I loved the first movie and I love the Ed Brubaker Captain America comics. First off the movie being called The Winter Soldier has me all kinds of excited. Those stories were amazing, flat out amazing. And casting Anthony Mackie as The Falcon would be great. Captain America and The Falcon have been partners for a long time in the comics, and they were great friends. I just want to see them now cast Sharon Carter/Agent 13. Captain America in the modern age fighting against Hydra or AIM could be really awesome. I think Anthony Mackie would be a good fit for this role. He was very good in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He has also been a stand out in The Hurt Locker, Real Steel, and Notorious. Plus his star is just on the rise. I can’t wait for this film, although I really can’t wait for all of the Marvel movies to come out. I am very excited.

Some Casting News For The Wolverine!
Fox has just announced some casting news regarding next summer's The Wolverine(the follow-up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
The news is as such:
Hiroyuki Sanada will play Shingen, Hal Yamanouchi will play Yashida, and Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima or set to play Mariko and Yukio.
They are all Japanese actors and it will be great to perhaps see a little authenticity to the film, which will feature the villain The Silver Samurai.
Officially looking forward to this film

Curse Of Chucky To Be Shot This Fall!
It has been announced that there will be a new sequel in the Child's Play franchise titled Curse Of Chucky. Creator Don Mancini will be heavily involved in the project which will begin production this fall. I was quite excited when I read about this... until I saw that it was a direct-to-dvd release. However Brad Dourif, the voice of Chucky, will reprise his role. There is still no word if Jennifer Tilly, Chucky's bride Tiffany, will be involved.
Also, it appears that a remake of the first film is still in the works.

Box Office Predictions June 22-24
Been away for a few weeks and man has it been crazy at the box office since. Last week, two summer tentpoles bombed (ROCK OF AGES and THAT’S MY BOY), while PROMETHEUS has intrigued some and pissed off plenty. This weekend, Pixar’s back, Abraham Lincoln is fighting vampires, and Steve Carrell and Keira Knightly are road tripping together before the end of the world. Take your pick!
Estimate: 63.1 Million
2. MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE’S MOST WANTED
Two CG-Animated releases in the top 2? Stranger things have happened.
Estimate: 16.3 Million
3. ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER
The best thing this one has going for it is timing. Still, that's not saying much. Had G.I. JOE still been around the corner, it would be in even more trouble. Ever see this trailer with a crowded audience? A lot of groans... and laughs. Perhaps its the title. Perhaps its the very JONAH HEX stigma the previews give off. A lot of things feel wrong about this movie. Vampires = overdone? Abraham Lincoln = supposed to be a joke? The movie could be wonderful, but audiences won’t give it a chance just yet.
Estimate: 15.1 Million
4. PROMETHEUS
Word of mouth has severed its legs. It’s not the movie people wanted. It’s not the movie people expected. Instead of brewing thought-provoking discussions a-la INCEPTION, it’s being torn apart on message boards. Like most of Ridley Scott’s works, only time will let it digest. Look at BLADE RUNNER: panned in its original release. Scott’s made a hundred different cuts of the movie because of that (I think). We’re living in post-Nolan world. People expect different and numbers don’t lie.
Estimate: 9.9 Million
5. ROCK OF AGES
The posters declare “nothing but a good time”. That didn’t entice people last week but musicals are sometimes an adjusted taste that take a while to catch on. Though star-studded ensembles of the late have bombed after opening weak (NEW YEARS EVE, WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING)
Estimate: 8.6 Million
6. THAT’S MY BOY
Oh boy. Adam Sandler in R-Rated territory hasn’t worked well in the past. He appeals to twelve year olds and those looking for a dumb time. Has his brand worn out or is this just a case of terrible marketing? Seriously, those trailers make it look terrible.
Estimate: 7.7 Million
7. SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD
Opening this weekend is Steve Carrell’s new movie. He’s had his share of hits, but Focus Features is choosing to open this at a modest 1400 locations. Is that enough to bring in a satisfying per-theatre average? Not really. When you go big, you go big. Carrell is big or go home. Luckily, HOPE SPRINGS is just around the corner.
Estimate: 7.5 Million
8. MARVEL’S AVENGERS
Avenging till Spiderman in a few weeks. Then two weeks later, its bye Spidey; what up Batman.
Estimate: 6.8 Million
9. MEN IN BLACK 3
Saw it this week was very surprised. It’s almost so authentically 90s in terms of aesthetic it was like being teleported back fifteen years. Felt like a movie I grew up on. That’s probably why it hasn’t clicked so well with this generation. Too bad.
Estimate: 6.4 Million
10. THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL
Not the MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING success of this decade just yet but it still has potential. It’s sticking around just as nicely but its not progressing the way the other one did. Let’s hope for the best. It’s grossing the same dollar, but ten years ago, those were much different dollars.
Estimate: 5.9 Million.

Top Ten Tuesdays
Top 10 Favourite Disney Movies
With Disney releasing their new film Brave this Friday, June 22 I thought it would be interesting to count down the Top Movies from the magical world of Disney. Let's do this!
10. Homeward Bound: The Incredible JourneyThis may be the only live-action film on this week’s Top 10 list but it was always one of my childhood favourites. Homeward Bound follows the journey of two dogs, Chance and Shadow and a cat named Sassy as they try to find their way through the wildnerness to find their home and family. And yes the pets talk. The voise work is done well by the likes of Michael J. Fox, Sally Field, and Don Alder. This movie is almost a tearjerker as well so watch out!
9. The Jungle BookRudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book makes the Top 10 Disney film list quite easily just by having some of the best music and best illustrations ever. The film is colorful, fun, and definitely displays the time period in which it was created. This film is one of the bare necessities of any Disney collection.
8. Snow White And The Seven Dwarves One of the very first Disney films, Snow White And The Seven Dwarves, sets the stage for the rest of the Disney princesses. It includes one of Disney’s most iconic villains and lots of cute cuddly forest animals to go around. Not to mention it’s a classic tale.
7. 101 DalmationsThis one is amazing! Love the opening sequence and every single one of those 101 Dalmations. The film follows dalmations Pongo, Perdy and their many children who are being sought after by the evil Cruella De Ville who wants to make coats out fo them.
6. The Fox And The HoundThe best part of The Fox And The Hound is that it’s a story about friendship. Todd and Copper grow up as friends until Copper becomes a hunting dog by command of his master, and eventually when needed Todd still comes to his aid. This movie was simply adorable and sad.
5. Toy Story 3Although the first sequel to Toy Story was a little underwhelming the third film in the series tells a tale about growing up through the team of toys that were introduced in the first and second films. We see their owner begin to grow apart from them as he gets older and eventually heads on to college. Toy Story 3 talks about the changes we all go through throughout our lives and how many of these changes can be sad ordeals or complete blessings in disguise. It is a coming of age story and should go down in history as not only the best Pixar film but also one of the best Disney films.
4. The Little MermaidWhat child or adult could resist singing “Under The Sea”. Even if you didn’t sing it out loud or hardly knew the words you still sang it in your head. The Little Mermaid is probably right behind The Lion King in terms of it’s music. And that’s what makes the film so terrific… Well, that and it’s cast of amazingly quirky and fun characters like Flounder and Sebastian the crab.
3. Beauty And The BeastBeauty And The Beast has one of the most important messages that people should strive to teach their children: “Looks aren’t everything”. The film is actually quite dark but fun at times and is considered one of the Disney classics. It has one of the better princesses and most of it’s other characters are memorable due to the fact that the have been turned into objects. Beauty And The Beast is a pure work of art.
2. AladdinI love all the characters in this film. It has a great hero and villain. It’s one of the biggest Disney adventures to date, with magic carpets soaring through the air, a genie granting wishes, and a sorcerer transforming into a cobra and trapping a princess in an hour glass. This one takes you into a whole new world.
1. The Lion KingThis is not only the best Disney movie ever made, it’s the best animated movie ever made, the best children’s movie ever made, and for me it’s in the top 10 movies ever made. The Lion King is all heart and should be regarded as a masterpiece. The film discusses awesome themes such as running from your past and taking responsibility for your actions. Also, the theme of family is at the heart of the film as young Simba tries to find his place in the world after his father is murdered by his villainous uncle Scar. This one is quite possibly the most beautifully colored of the Disney films and most definitely has the best music of all of them. Hats off to the Elton John, Tim Rice, and Hans Zimmer.

Producer Avi Arad Discusses Future Venom Movie and Spider-Man's Potential Involvement In Future Avengers Installments
The Amazing Spider-Man producer, Avi Arad, says that Sony is working on a Venom movie that could eventually lead up to Venom's appearance in the new Spider-Man movie series. He also talked about how he felt that Spider-Man didn't need to be involved in the Avengers films although he stated that he could see that it would benefit both Disney and Sony. This means that there is a solid chance that Spider-Man could show up in The Avengers. Unfortunately, at this point in time, Sony still owns the rights to Spider-Man, so the ball is in their court.

The Hangover Part III Could Take Place In Tijuana
Life And Style Magazine recently published a report that stated that the third film in the Hangover franchise could be heading down to Mexico.
Director Todd Phillips said this about the upcoming film:
"Obviously we always envisioned it as a trilogy, the third would be very much a finale and an ending... I haven't discussed it with these actors yet. [It would] not follow the same template, but is very much a new idea."
As much as I enjoyed the first movies I would like the filmmakers to take the film in a different direction rather than make another carbon copy of the original.

MTV To Develop Scream TV Series
This is a strange piece of news to me. It has be announced that MTV is making Scream into a television series. Personally, I'm not sold on this idea as I feel like Scream is done best as a film series. Also, I am worried that the cast will not live up to the cast that the fans of this series have come to know and love. It is also not known whether or not any of the cast of the film or if Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson will have an involvement in the series.

See Catwoman and Wolverine star in Les Miserable trailer
Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway star in the newest musical incantation of Victor Hugo’s immortal Les Miserables. The film also stars Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried. I am looking forward to this because Hugh Jackman is one of the most versatile and talented people in Hollywood. I for one cannot wait to see him take on the role of Jean Valjean. Watch the trailer here and listen to Anne Hathaway sing I Dream A Dream https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=EnLSG5t_dc8

Box Office Predictions May 25-28(Memorial Day Weekend)
It’s Memorial Day Long Weekend in The States, which up until about fifteen years ago was the traditional start of the summer movie season. Once upon a time it was the opening weekends for such monumental entries in the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, X-Men, Pirates, Back To The Future, and Terminator franchises. Until 1999’s THE MUMMY proved audiences were ready to flock to blockbusters a few weeks early at the beginning of May, Memorial Day Weekend was THE weekend to kick it all off. Friday sees two movies opening up on this usually packed weekend - Will Smith’s return after four years in the sci-fi/comedy MEN IN BLACK 3 and the found-footage (or not?) European-set horror flick CHERNOBYL DIARIES. MEN IN BLACK 3 will surely win the two but will it knock down AVENGERS’ reign of fury?
1. MEN IN BLACK 3
If SCREAM 4 and AMERICAN REUNION have taught us anything, audiences aren't exactly running to revisit 90s nostalgia anytime soon given those two movies box office under performances (domestically at least). MEN IN BLACK 3 has a few giant benefits - it’s an established and internationally successful franchise; it has Will Smith (though 2008’s SEVEN POUNDS drew less numbers than expected); and it has mass appeal and a PG-13 (unlike the other two’s now grown up youth audience and the hard R-ratings). MEN IN BLACK's 1997 haul of $257 Million would equal to TRANSFORMERS numbers these days. However, it has been ten years since MEN IN BLACK 2 had people groaning and avoiding which is never a good sign. Also, production issues causing this movie to be delayed and partially reshot is another red flag. However, it has the 3D dollars that have been missing in the last few weeks' releases and its certain almost everyone has seen THE AVENGERS. It won’t open as high as the other two (adjusted for inflation of course) but look for MEN IN BLACK 3 to steal the weekend thanks to a good time slot.
Estimate: $56.2 Million (Friday - Monday)
2. THE AVENGERS
Expect this to be in the top ten till at least THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. It's only a question of how high will this go. Will it beat AVATAR's domestic $760 million? Or is THE DARK KNIGHT's $533 Million more realistic. The competition is starting to pile up and come PROMETHEUS, there's a ton of other movies that are going to take away from AVENGERS. AVATAR had the benefit of an open Winter. In summer, nothing is open for long.
Estimate: $49.2 Million
3. BATTLESHIP
It tanked as expected. Audiences just aren’t that dumb. Sure, TRANSFORMERS 3 can earn a billion worldwide but that’s just because TRANSFORMERS hit at the right time - always the right time. BATTLESHIP had the ungodly task of being in THE AVENGERS’ junior frame and when you have the two playing the same theatre - what are you going to see? It all comes down to if this movie is worth today’s ticket prices. BATTLESHIP just isn’t. It has been proven. The “bleh” audience reaction to this is most likely the reason Paramount decided to delay their Hasbro summer feature G.I. JOE: RETALIATION by nine months at the last minute.
Estimate: $18.0 Million
4. THE DICTATOR
Word of mouth is sort of on par with BAD TEACHER, but that movie opened bigger and with less chaos in the box office. Still, its the first R-rated comedy of the summer and last summer was easily The Summer Of The R-Rated Comedy. It all depends on taste and THE DICTATOR is very, very politically incorrect - it’s the gimmick of the movie.
Estimate: $13.5 Million
5. CHERNOBYL DIARIES
It’s looking more like THE DARKEST HOUR than THE DEVIL INSIDE which is not good at all. Still, its a genre flick being unleashed with very little competition and mysteriously intriguing marketing campaign. Both PROJECT X and CHRONICLE were sleeper hits earlier this year proving there is still interest in this relatively cheap aesthetic of filmmaking. Unfortunately, THE DEVIL INSIDE’s word of mouth this January was astronomically terrible despite opening up to 34 times its budget. DIARIES is most likely going to see THE HILLS HAVE EYES numbers, which is fair enough.
Estimate: $12 Million
6. WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING
It won’t dip as far as NEW YEARS EVE but the audience approval just isn’t there. It’s lucky to have the long weekend in its sophomore frame meaning women have an extra day off and the “why not check it out” option. Still, this was disastrous timing.
Estimate: $8.9 Million
7. DARK SHADOWS
It’s lingering in the top ten to remind us of what could have been if this opened in early October. It should have. They should pull it out and rerelease it with the different marketing style in five months. Its just not going to clear that $150 Million budget with any profit. Tragic.
Estimate: $7.8 Million
8. THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL
Looking more and more like MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING each weekend. It would be nice to see a movie with such heart take off as well again.
Estimate: $4.1 Million
9. THE HUNGER GAMES
You’re still here? Well, good for you HUNGER GAMES. It was announced this week its making its TWILIGHT-esque Saturday debut on DVD later this August, so its not going away any time soon.
Estimate: $3.5 Million
10. THINK LIKE A MAN
The possibility of this one topping the rank of WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING is getting closer each week. Why? This one is sticking around while the other one is dropping like a fly.
Estimate: $2.0 Millio
Sort of a difficult weekend to call. Do you see MEN IN BLACK 3 going higher or lower? What about CHERNOBYL DIARIES? Could we have another DEVIL INSIDE success or a SILENT HOUSE failure? But most importantly, what do YOU plan on seeing?

6 New Character Posters For The Dark Knight Rises!
These posters were released recently and personally I think they look great! So stoked for this film!
Box Office Predictions May 18-20
Three summer movies open this weekend, each of them serving a different audience. The action-spectacle, based on Hasbro product BATTLESHIP; the ensemble pregnancy flick, based on the best selling self help book WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING; and the controversial and irreverent scripted feature based on comedian Sasha Baron Coen’s satiric alter ego, THE DICTATOR. Do any of these stand a chance against the biggest superhero movie of the decade (so far)?
1. MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS
It’s crossed the billion-dollar worldwide mark this week which means its done in fourteen days what some summer movies can’t do half of in their entire run. This weekend at number one is looking more and more like a sure thing. It’s the only sure thing out there. It’s the movie people are talking and raving about and if they’re not - they’re certainly discussing it. Really, where is the competition? MEN IN BLACK 3D opens next weekend and it will top AVENGERS but again for this weekend, it’s stealing number one by a landslide.
2. BATTLESHIP
The last summer movie about a ship was 2006’s POSEIDON which opened at #2 to a disappointing $19.2 Million. BATTLESHIP is just deja vu all over again. It’ll bring in more money than POSEIDON during the opening weekend but thanks to some unkind reviews and a really disinterested word of mouth on Flixster and Twitter, it will most likely end up with similar dollars towards the end. It’s easily this years answer to TRANSFORMERS - a loud, action packed Hasbro-product brought to life. Only this is opening without the built in fandom.
Estimate: $28.1 Million
3. THE DICTATOR
Nothing could stop Sasha Baron Coen’s BORAT from becoming the obnoxiously over-quoted pop culture icon he was in 2006. It scored big bucks and made him a name. 2009 saw his return to unscripted in character pseudo-documentaries with BRUNO. The switch from Fox to Universal showed - BRUNO was obviously tinkered and tailored by the studio in a way that only showed how brave BORAT was compared to BRUNO. Still, BRUNO had its shocking moments that some might remember. THE DICTATOR is a scripted effort from Coen but still relies on irreverent political, cultural, racial, sexist, and homophobic humour which has proven quite funny when its being self-aware. THE DICTATOR looks poised to score about half of BRUNO’s dollars - easily. Unless this is a runaway hit, opening weekend is going to be front loaded to death.
Estimate: $18.5 Million
4. DARK SHADOWS
This should have been released in October. It would have owned the Halloween season. Tim Burton return to gothic gloom and Johnny Depp as a vampire? You can’t get more Halloween than that. Shame too, the movie is actually kind of good.
Estimate: $14.3 Million
5. WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING
THINK LIKE A MAN exploded earlier this season which would have one believe that another chick flick ensemble serving a larger demographic would be on the road to bank even bigger bucks. Unfortunately, this one looks terrible all around. The trailers have been weak and the lack of advertisement says the movie is nowhere near as crowd-pleasing as HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU. Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez have both had their share of hundred-million dollar hits and embarrassing flops so its up in the air if they are going to bring in a crowd this time around - together. As for the men in the movie - is there even a reliable male draw? Will the targeted women show up for GLEE’s Matthew Morrison or Chris Rock? It’s highly doubtful. Busy and expecting moms could sell some tickets. Anyone outside of that demo is just looking for something to do. What to expect from WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING? A lot of dismissiveness from critics and audiences alike.
Estimate: $14.1 Million
6. THINK LIKE A MAN
I kind of wish this ends up higher than WTEWYE but that one won’t happen. At least its going to last longer in its run. That’s pretty much a guarantee.
Estimate: $4.3 Million
7. THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL
A movie that should stick around all summer. Could be 2012’s answer to MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING but that type of labeling can’t even be predicted till August. It’s earned a jaw dropping $82 Million worldwide so far and word of mouth has been nice so far. That’s all its audience needs.
Estimate: $4.0 Million
8. THE HUNGER GAMES
I still haven’t seen it. It’s sort of sticking around theaters tempting people like me.
Estimate: $2.5 Million
9. THE LUCKY ONE
This shouldn’t be in the top ten. It got lucky not opening up against anything like it.
Estimate: $2.0 Million
10. THE PIRATES! A BAND OF MISFITS
The luck has bled over to this one. Until BRAVE...
Estimate: <$1.5 Million
AVENGERS‘ guaranteed success has made the only interesting things about May’s box office be about how much its going to continue earning and how much it will crush its competition Hulk-style. June should pick up strongly with SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN, PROMETHEUS, and BRAVE. Looks like it could be the summer of strong female heroines. Thank you HUNGER GAMES (and last year’s THE HELP/BRIDESMAIDS) for leading this trend!

The Full name of the movie is Sin City A Dame To Kill For.

BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS: May 11 - 13
Blowing away even the most generous of box office predictions last weekend, MARVEL’S AVENGERS over performed like nothing before - besting last year’s recorder setter HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HOLLOWS PART 2 by almost $40 Million. While AVENGERS will have no problem taking the top spot this weekend it could also set a new record for the biggest drop from first to second weekend.
1. MARVEL’S AVENGERS
You don’t open at $207.1 Million dollars and plummet to #2 in your sophomore frame. It’s just not possible and there isn’t anything opening this weekend to make it happen. AVENGERS has pretty much until MEN IN BLACK 3 later this month to rule the top spot. Word of mouth has been nothing but excellent, with the only notable retaliation being displaced fanboys, the few unimpressed, and the ones who love being in the minority opinion. Though this number screams nothing but front-loaded, all this AVENGERS talk this week could save it from the fate that was IRON MAN 2’s massive opening and head scratching second week. How much will it drop? Its tough to call. Having a second weekend in the hundred million cume is unprecedented and this movie is already making miracles left, right, and center.
Estimate: $87 Million
2. DARK SHADOWS
The last Johnny Depp/Tim Burton romp ALICE IN WONDERLAND broke March records, opening with $116 Million. This one is far more in line with SWEENEY TODD, only its rated PG-13 and its not opening during Oscar Season. Vampire movies rarely do well outside of the TWILIGHT, BLADE, and UNDERWORLD franchises (even last summer’s tonally-similar FRIGHT NIGHT tanked) Still, there isn’t much of a competition and the marketing has peaked interest. It’s opening in 3,700 screens and not in 3D, which doesn’t say much but its readily available as an alternative to sold out screenings of AVENGERS.
Estimate: $37 Million
3. THINK LIKE A MAN
This one just keeps on going. The underdog movie of pre-summer? Watch out Tyler Perry, your impending summer sleeper might just be overshadowed.
Estimate: $7 Million
4. THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT
I want to believe this will hold on for a few more weeks, at least until WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING comes out. I don’t know why this hasn’t done better, I don’t. It’s a funny, sweet little movie that does, yes, run longer than most, and yes, again features Jason Segel - but it’s so much better than the Nicholas Sparks dreck that still haunts the top five.
Estimate: $5 Million
5. THE LUCKY ONE
The less said about this title the better. It’s only doing this well because THE VOW opened the doors for this years sappy rom-dram’s.
Estimate: $5 Million
6. THE HUNGER GAMES
If 2012 proves to be the year of overnight, unexpected, and (relatively) lower-budgeted blockbuster miracles, perhaps the world might not end in December.
Estimate: $5 Million
7. SAFE
There’s always a Jason Statham backup in case things are sold out. Am I right? This is just practice until the big game that is THE EXPENDABLES 2 later this summer. People are probably saving their R-rated action star dollars for that one.
Estimate: $4 Million
8. THE PIRATES! A BAND OF MISFITS
Because there isn’t anything else out there for children.
Estimate $4 Million
9. CHIMPANZEE
Except for this one. And neither of them are Pixar. Or Pixar-esque.
Estimate: $2 Million
10. THE RAVEN
I could be way off on this one. Much like John Cusak’s choice of roles these days. Didn’t turn out to be the 1408 hit the studio was hoping for. Better luck on Netflix.
Estimate: <$1 Million
From spots 4-8, it will be tight! Could THE RAVEN drop off and CABIN IN THE WOODS stick around? It could happen! 21 JUMP STREET reappearing? Not off limits. What will you be seeing this weekend?

1. MARVEL’S AVENGERS
You don’t open at $207.1 Million dollars and plummet to #2 in your sophomore frame. It’s just not possible and there isn’t anything opening this weekend to make it happen. Top Box Office May 7
Here are the Box Office Results for the top 12 films from this weekend.
New Amazing Spider-Man Trailer!
This movie doesn't look terrible but I'm still not sold on this one. This is either gonna be great or a huge disaster in my opinion but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Box Office Predictions!
We have a new contributor to our site! His name is Jake McDowell. As filmmaker and student Jake knows what the industry is all about so we are very honored to have him post something that he has a lot of knowledge on! Here are Jake's predictions for this weekend's Box Office:
1. MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS
It’s officially “summer movie season” which means a new blockbuster each week (more often than now, two or more actually). MARVEL has had big success in the past on this weekend. IRON MAN opened to an unexpected $98.1 Million back in 2008 and two years later its sequel garnered a staggering $126.2 Million. Last year’s THOR grossed around $68.5 so the audience is there and ready. None of that need apply to THE AVENGERS, which is the assembly of every big Marvel character since 08 and it’s going to be huge. It’s grossed close to $300 Million overseas already and word of mouth is more incredible than IRON MAN. With THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA still fresh in the minds of movie-goers thanks to their successful origin stories last summer, it’s only becoming draw after draw. Expect AVENGERS to open huge.
Estimate: $145 Million
2. THINK LIKE A MAN
It stole the top spot two weekends in a row with a lower theatre count than any other big release and without any high profile stars. The Black audience is always underserved and with the interesting decline in this years Tyler Perry production, this appears to be the one they’ve been waiting for. Its great knowing a $12 Million production can earn close to $70 Million in two weeks, serving a specific demographic, and without the use of mass-marketing. Reason #85 why these big budget star powered comedies have been tanking in the last few years.
Estimate: $10 Million
3. THE HUNGER GAMES
Anyone who is seeing HUNGER GAMES again is apart of two groups. The sold-out bleed and the one’s who have just finished the book. Still, its all profits from here on out as this overnight phenomenon continues to blow minds in its success.
Estimate: $7 Million.
4. THE LUCKY ONE
It doesn’t have the competition out there, then again Nicholas Sparks adaptations usually try to aim for that. Still, selling Zac Efron as a marine with a cliched-to-the-wall romance backdrop can only draw in so many. It’s proof now he’s no Channing Tatum.
Estimate: $6 Million
5. THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS
Again, another title that doesn’t have much competition. Those who are going to see it will in the next couple of weeks. Overseas its rocking the boat. Domestically, not so much.Estimate: $6 Million
6. THE FIVE YEAR ENGAGEMENT
Apatow will have to deal without having a breakout comedy hit this year, which is fine since 2010’s GET HIM TO THE GREEK bleed just as bad in its decline. Bad timing? Bad marketing? Romantic comedies comes every month. Perhaps no one was ready for it just yet.Estimate: $5 Million
7. SAFE
The “what else is there?” consideration. Estimate: $4 Million
8. THE RAVEN
The “we need something spooky” go-to option. Word of mouth hasn’t been kind or much at all. Curiosity will bring in the dollars this weekend.
Estimate: $3 Million
9. 21 JUMP STREET
Eight weeks in the top ten. Sony is glad they took another chance on Jonah Hill.
Estimate: $2.5 Million
10. THE CABIN IN THE WOODS
This could go either way. A steep decline or a sudden interest. Remember, its Joss Weadon’s week. Like most of his work, this weekend will certainly surprise.
Estimate: $2 Million

Extra Scene added at the end of The Avengers
There was already one scene during the credits but there is now an extra scene added. Folks the movie is close to 2 and a half hours as it is, so go pee twice before the movie so you don’t have to get up and miss these two scenes. I am super excited for this movie and have tickets for all 3 days this opening weekend. I loved all 5 of the other Marvel Studio pictures and am sure that Joss Whedon + Marvel Comics = Jason Revington one happy fan boy.

NEW Dark Knight Rises Trailer!
Ok so a new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has hit the web and it is quite well done. It goes a little deeper into the story than the previous two trailers did. This one focuses more on Bane and Catwoman(who seems to be more of an ally). It's a quieter trailer but still exciting:)

Chronicle Sequel On The Way!
It has been confirmed that a sequel to the found-footage superhero film Chronicle, which was released earlier this year, is underway. The screenwriter from the first film, Max Landis, will be writing the sequel and stated that it is unlikely that director Josh Trank will return. Landis also stated that the character Matt, will return in the film and that it will follow the events of the first movie.

Did you see Cabin In The Woods? Want to talk about it?
I saw Cabin in the Woods at a Special Sneak Peak Screening on March 14th. I talked about how much I loved it in the Four Geeks and a Pizza Podcast. Now I will post about it for the first time. To start with this is probably the best horror film I have seen in the theater. And probably the best horror movie I have seen since Scream. If I were to go down and base the movie merit for merit it would probably best Scream, but I just wanted to give you a litmus test in which to measure these films. Now it is not the scariest horror film. But it has superb writing, acting and an original plot, all while borrowing from past horror films. It comes as no shock that I enjoyed this film. It was written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard (who was also the director). I have been a Joss fan since I started watching Buffy and Drew has worked on some of my favourite shows of all time. If you have not yet seen Cabin In The Woods I highly recommend that you do. It is hard to review this movie without giving away spoilers. But going in without knowing much about the plot will make it an even better experience for you. I don't think anyone can come out of the theater disappointed at all, the last 20 to 30 minutes are insanely entertaining. Watch enjoy and realize why we all have become such big fans of Joss and his associates.

New poster for Quentin Tarantino's new film Django Unchained
I am looking forward to this film. I am a big Tarantino fan and think that the premise of this film seems very intriguing. A Slave gets bought and trained as a Bounty Hunter. Then goes to free his wife from the wicked Plantation Owner. The cast has many great character actors and many All Stars including Leonardo Dicaprio, Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Christoph Waltz, Sacha Baron Cohen, Don Johnson and Samuel L Jackson.
As the poster says the film comes out at Christmas.

Captain America 2 announced for April 4 2014
Captain America 2 announced for April 4 2014
I am super excited about this. Captain America is one of my favorite Comic Book characters and I loved the first film. I am highly anticipating the second film and well I am seriously end of my seat can’t help but count the days anticipating The Avengers film.
Go here to Collider.com to check out more on this http://collider.com/captain-america-2-sequel-release-date/157385/
I am hoping they go with the Winter Soldier storyline. Or a combination of Baron Zemo and Winter Soldier. Then bring Red Skull back at the end to set up the sequel.

Out this Friday in theatres and Video On Demand Comic-Con Episode 4: A Fans Hope
The geeky Fanboy only needed to read this Stan Lee and Joss Whedon Presents
*Boom* Geekgasm. I heard about Comic-Con Episode 4: A Fans Hope last year when the Toronto International Film Festival was on. I was curious and after seeing this trailer let me see I NEED TO SEE THIS. I love Conventions. I would love to visit the Mecca that is San Diego Comic-Con. But since I won’t be going any time soon I do want to see this documentary. You can go to the official site here and read about it. http://comicconmovie.com/
The documentary is directed by Morgan Spurlock that man behind Super Size Me. This is a must view for any Convention fan of True Geek at heart.

New Stills From Prometheus!
I thought these were pretty cool....Take a look for yourself:)
The Host Teaser Trailer
The teaser has been out for a few weeks now but I thought I would bring it to everyone's attention.
Stephanie Meyer's book The Host has been made into a movie. For those of you who are not familiar with the plot, The Host is about Earth after it has been invaded by aliens that invade the minds of humans, while leaving their body intact. They are able to control humans, read their memories and are vulnerable to human emotions. Humanity hasn't been entirely taken by these lifeforms and humans free of their control live in hiding. The story is told from the perspective of Wanderer, who has been given Melanie's body. Melanie, however, has refused to relinquish her mind to Wanderer. The two then battle it out as Wanderer feels Melanie's love for a man that is still living in hiding.
Being a fan of the Twilight series, then finishing the books and not feeling any closure or satisfaction, I was a little skeptical to pick up this book. But after finishing the book I have to say that it was a very enjoyable novel. I am looking forward to seeing more about this movie, and the excitement is beginning for the movie's release in 2013.

Hilarious Red Band Trailer from Seth McFarlane’s TED
This trailer actually looks hilarious. Family Guy is funny I just never was a regular viewer. But this is the kind of movie that I want to go see. It stars Mark Wahlberg and the gorgeous Mila Kunis. Now remember a Red Band Trailer is restricted so make sure you are OVER 18 to check out this trailer.

New Trailer for Rock of Ages
This is a musical I am looking forward to. It has the music of my youth. The storyline looks great. And the women are pretty easy on the eyes.
Here is what the movie is about"Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more."
If you want to watch the trailer check it out at Collider http://collider.com/rock-of-ages-trailer-2/156745/#more-156745

Hornswoggle To Star In Leprechaun: Origins
WWE films has announced that David Postl also known as Hornswoggle will star in the upcoming Leprechaun Remake. I don't know what to think of this. ThSeems like a step down from Warwick Davis. Hopefully this film will be able to bring the franchise back to it's horror roots.

A Star Is Born Remake Is Actually Based On Kurt Cobain
Having never seen the original film, I can say that I am happy that the film will somewhat follow his life. Although I'm sure some of the film's fans are not going to be happy. I personally would love to see a full Kurt Cobain bio-film one day but this seems to be the closest thing I'm going to get in the near future. This is what screen writer Will Fetters is saying about the Clint Eastwood directed film:
"I think I've reinvented the Norman Maine character, the lead," Fetters said. "I wanted to do 'A Star is Born' because I'm a huge Kurt Cobain fan. That was like my Kennedy assassination when I was a teenager. When he died it was a huge horrible thing. So I approached 'A Star is Born,' for me the framework was all right, if Kurt Cobain never got to go Unplugged and survived and it’s 20 years later and it’s now, and he wanted to try to do that album with that understanding as this grunge icon. That'd be tough to get done if he was past his prime, no longer selling, how does he get that album?”

Ninja Turtles Gets It's Title
So Michael Bay has announced officially that the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will indeed be titled just Ninja Turtles. He also released another statement defending the film after controversy erupted amongst fans over their supposed alien origin. This is what he had to say:
"Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie. This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles. They care VERY MUCH about making this film for the fans. Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance. Jonathan the director, is a major fan of the whole franchise. HE'S NOT GOING TO LET YOU DOWN."

Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles?
Ok so the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot seems to have taken a turn for the worst as Michael Bay stated that the Turtles would be alien life forms and not have the original origin story of the ooze MUTATING them. Key word MUTATING. He continued to say:
"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."
This is unbelievable. That isn't what the Ninja Turtles were about. Now I am not a typical Michael Bay hater.... but this may have been the worst idea he's ever had. Leave the turtles alone!

A Leprechaun Remake Is In The Works
It's true, the remake to the 1993 film starring Warwick Davis and Jennifer Aniston is coming in 2013! As much as I don't mind remakes(if done correctly) this is one horror franchise that I feel is too much of a cult classic to bother with. I love the Leprechaun movies for their campy tone but I wish Hollywood would leave this one alone.

Jurassic Park Makes It's Way Back To Theatres In 2013
As much as I LOVE the Jurassic Park films, I feel the need to object to this. Universal has announced that it will re-release Jurassic Park next summer in 3D in celebration of it's 20th Anniversary(Holy fuck I can't believe it's been 20 years). I would love to see the film in the theatre once more as it is indeed one of the great technical feats of modern filmmaking. That being said I feel that a 3D version is not necessary. Oh and bring on part 4 already!!!

The Top 10 Most Irritating Film Characters
With the release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D in theatres this passed Friday I thought this week would be a good one to count down my top 10 most irritating film characters, because the film itself is known for an annoying character or two itself. Well here's the list.... enjoy.
10. The Sherminator(American Pie)Starting the list is American Pie's very own Sherminator. This is one character who was actually enjoyably irritating and actually brought something to the film.
The geek Sherminator boasts throughout the film about sexual conquests, which is enough to make you want to vomit. The Sherminator is one of the characters that did not appear in the third installment of the franchise, American Wedding, that I am hoping to see in this year's American Reunion. 9. Dr. Ian Malcolm(Jurassic Park)Once again, a character who is actually a good part of the movie makes the "most irritating" list. This is due to Jeff Goldblum's awesome, obnoxious portrayal of the character.
Put simply this man does not shut up. He is always talking and has a few moments where he states his desire for Dr. Ellie Satler and leaves the audience thinking "please, god no". At points you would love to see him get eaten by the T-Rex but in the end you know it's better that he doesn't. 8. C3PO(Star Wars)Next on the list is Star Wars' own Dr. Ian Malcolm, C3PO.
Whoever thought a robot could be so annoying. Once again the character talks to much, however this one just bitches. It seems that no matter what R2D2 does C3PO is always on his case. Anytime I hear his voice I pretty much just want t scream. C3PO is however part of the comic relief of the movies and can be somewhat funny, and is also the voice of reason so he is necessary to the film. 7. Batgirl(Batman & Robin)There is absolutely nothing good about this character. Well at least this take on the character. Like every other character in this film Batgirl has cheesy line after cheesy line. her costume looks kind of ridiculous and Alicia Silverstone is not the greatest actress.
The annoying part is that she does pretty much nothing the whole film and when she does it's very brief. Her fight with Poison Ivy was about as exciting as watching paint dry, other than the laughs that were provided via the horrible screenplay. 6. Mr. Freeze(Batman & Robin)Our second offender from this film comes in the form of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze.
Arnold should not have been cast in the first place, he doesn't have the depth to play a character like Mr. Freeze. The character in the film spits out horrible one liners throughout the ENTIRE movie. Freeze this!! Freeze that!!!! Mr. Freeze is just another character you want to smack. As a villain he is little more menacing than Elmo, which is not the Mr. Freeze I would like to see. 5. Jessie (Toy Story 2)I think this may be the one character on the list that I just can't explain my hatred for. She is just plain and simple annoying, loud, and obnoxious for seemingly no reason. THANK GOD they toned her down for Toy Story 3.
4. Bella Swan(Twilight)My hatred for this character has no bounds. Kristen Stewart stop grabbing your hair!! You're really not that much of a tortured soul Bella.
Bella just seemingly whines with no end. absolutely nothing happens to you in these films(with the exception of Breaking Dawn) so get over it! There I got it out... Moving on... 3. Wendy Torrance(The Shining)I think this character is only really annoying because of the actress who plays her(Shelley Duvall). The rest of the movie is spectacular. This character just seems to irritate me for no reason other than that and I think that irritates me even more.
2. Rachel(War Of The Worlds)If you think Bella Swan is bad for her whining in Twilight, take a look at Rachel(Dakota Fanning) in Steven Spielberg's War Of The Worlds.
I find this movie more tolerable than most, but the one thing that keeps it down for me is Rachel. This little girl is the biggest baby possibly ever put on screen. I loathe her. By the end I just wished she would be killed by the aliens. 1. Jar Jar Binks(Star Wars Episode I)I don't have much respect for George Lucas in the first place, but this character is probably the worst character in the history of film.
He tries to be funny..... But he's not. And he is kind of combination of many many negative stereotypes that exist in today's society. Not too mention he's quite ugly, making him even less likeable. At least Lucas was smart enough to practically write Jar Jar's character out of the remaining Star Wars movies. |
Ghostbusters 3 Could Move On Without Bill Murray
Dan Aykroyd recently stated in an interview with Empire Magazine that Bill Murray's character. Peter Venkman, may be recast due to Murray's lack of interest in the project. When it came to talk of whether Rick Moranis would return to the franchise he stated that they would not want to continue without his involvement. You see this confuses me. You can do a third Ghostbusters movie without Bill Murray but not without Rick Moranis?! There's something wrong with these statements Dan...
Personally I don't want to see a movie without either Murray or Moranis. It would just be wrong.

Top 10 Movies With Wolves And/Or Werewolves!
Welcome to the latest feature to my website!! From now on every Tuesday I will be posting a Top 10 list. The lists will have a different theme every week and will include movies, music, and television. For this week I've decided that since The Grey was number one at the box office and two other films within the Top 12 grossing films this weekend have wolves werewolves in them that I will count down my Top 10 movies with wolves and/or werewolves in them. Let's get this week's countdown underway.
10. Buffy The Vampire Slayer- OzOk so I know that Oz wasn't in the original Buffy movie but as you could probably imagine it's very difficult to come up with a list of good movies with wolves in them and Oz is just too awesome to pass up. I will put Buffy at the bottom of the list, taking into consideration the fact that Oz is more of a TV werewolf.
Oz is one of the characters on Buffy that has a real physical problem to overcome. The show focuses on his character a lot as well as his relationship with soon-to-be witch, Willow. Oz struggles to find balance in their relationship and tries to cope with becoming a killer Werewolf three times a month. 9. Dog Soldiers(2002)When soldiers camp out in the Scottish highlands they find they are under the attack of humongous werewolves and eventually become locked in a cabin, with the deadly beasts waiting outside.
The reason this film comes in at #9 is due to the horrifying huge monsters that it unleashes upon it's audience. Dog Soldiers is quite thrilling to watch and is definately one of the best Werewolf movies around. 8. Underworld(2003)- The LycansThe original Underworld brought us a really cool story about how the vampires and lycans have sustained a centuries-long war between them.
This movie is excellent for anyone who really loves action and horror. The Lycans(werewolves) don't look quite so polished but they pose one hell of a threat to the vampires, which makes for great entertainment. 7. Fright Night(1985)- Evil EdYes, this is a vampire movie. The reason this is on this list is because the vampires can also turn into wolves in this amazingly cheesy film. Evil Ed transforms at one point in the finale of the film and it is excellent for anyone likes extremely ridiculous horror films. Thank you Evil Ed.
6. Balto(1995)Ok so here is where we take a break from the horror films and Werewolves for a bit.
The family movie Balto was an absolute gem during my younger years. It was funny, it was entertaining, and it had a fantastic story. Balto is the story of a noble wolf who sets out to save a little girl from her illness in Alaska with the help of an amazing sled team of other dogs and animals. 5. The Jungle Book(1967)- Mowgli's PackDisney's The Jungle Book, a movie based on Rudyard Kipling's classic tale about a boy raised by wolves in the jungle, makes the list because it itself is also a classic, and a terrific movie for the whole family. It is indeed one of Disney's better animated classics.
4. Old Yeller(1957)- The Rabid WolfThe second Disney film to enter this list comes in the form of a tear-jerker.
After a family living on a ranch takes in a stray dog they begin to fall in love with it until they are attacked by a rabid wolf, which infects the dog. Young Travis is forced to shoot Old Yeller. A sad one, but definately a classic. 3. Beauty And The Beast(1991)- The Wolves In The ForrestYet another Disney film graces the list! Beauty And The Beast is one of the best animated movies period. But the scene where the wolves attack Belle's father Maurice in the forrest is, in my opinion, one of the best scenes in the movie.
2. The Howling(1981)One of the best Werewolf horror films EVER made. The film tells the story of a woman who seeks therapy in a rehab centre after being attacked by a murderer. When she finds out a deadly secret about what the other inhabitants.
The film features an insane Werewolf transformation that would probably prove to be the single best Werewolf transformation in a movie. 1. An American Werewolf In LondonThis film is a true horror classic.
After being attacked by a werewolf David starts to become one himself and runs around the streets of London on the prowl. The best thing about this film is probably the make-up and special effects. For the time it was quite well done. This doesn't apply only to the werewolf scenes. It also applies to the make-up used on David's best friend who was torn apart by a werewolf in the beginning of the film. |

Spider-Man In A Ramones T-Shirt?
Alright so below are two new production stills from The Amazing Spider-Man. The first concerns me a little as Andrew Garfield who plays Peter Parker is dressed in a Ramones T-Shirt. Now I love the Ramones but this seems like a bit of a stretch for Peter Parker. I don't know what director Mark Webb and his costume designer are thinking but lets hope this movie ends up being better than it has appeared to be so far. I never thought I would say I am not overly excited for a Spider-Man movie, but it has come to that point now. I will still see this movie but my expectations are LOW.
Director Considered For Carrie Remake
MGM and Screen Gems have been in talks to have Kimberly Pierce direct the upcoming Carrie remake. Pierce previous works include Boys Don't Cry and Stop-Loss. I LOVED the original Carrie and feel that it is one of the movies that just doesn't need a remake. Let's see what Pierce does with it.

Horrible Bosses Sequel In The Works
The screenwriters of the 2011 comedy have been resigned to work on the sequel. It is assumed, although not yet confirmed, whether or not Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis will reprise their roles. I for one loved the original film and would love to see a sequel. I have no idea what they will do with it though seeing as the first film didn't exactly leave itself open for a sequel.

New Official Dark Knight Rises Photos And Chris Nolan Speaks!
SPOILER ALERT!
These pictures come from Empire Magazine's latest issue. They also talked with Chris Nolan about the film. He stated that the new film will take place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight. He also revealed that Bane needs his mask, which pumps out gas, to survive from injuries he acquired in his early life. Here are the pics. I think the most interesting pic is the one of Bane holding up a picture of Harvey Dent. I wonder how the "death" of Harvey will affect the plot The Dark Knight Rises.

Zombieland TV Series In The Works
Yes, there are plans to replace the would-be Zombieland sequel with a 30 minute TV series. The writers of the film, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will be involved with project. Unfortunately the cast of the film will more than likely not appear in the series. I feel like this is a bad decision due to the fact that the cast in the film worked extremely well together and that was one of the things that made it interesting. I know that they are trying to capitalize off the minor zombie craze that is happening right now, with the success of The Walking Dead, but I would prefer a feature film sequel. Let's hear your thoughts.

Mortal Kombat To Be Rebooted For Possible 2013 Release
New Line Cinema has decided to go ahead with a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film franchise. This is an absolutely amazing idea. I loved both of the Mortal Kombat movies from the '90s but feel like this is a franchise where a reboot may actually help the series, unlike many of the other remakes/reboots that have been done or that are in the works. New Line is expecting to start filming in early 2012, with the film potentially being released in 2013.

Sigourney Weaver Discusses Avatar 2 and Ghostbusters 3
Sigourney Weaver has confirmed that she will reprise her role as Grace in Avatar 2. She also confirmed that filming for Avatar 2 and 3 will be back-to-back. Ms. Weaver also stated that she intends to return to the Ghostbusters franchise as well for Ghostbusters 3, however there seems to be nothing solid going on with that film so she stated "I hope it comes together but we already did two wonderful films, if we have to let this one go, that's fine".

Universal Presents... A New Title Card Without Moustapha Akkad's Name On The New Halloween II Blu Ray Release.
This is utter BS. For those of you who don't know Moustapha Akkad was one the producer of the Halloween franchise. He passed away in 2005. In the Halloween films there was always a displayed title card that read: "Moustapha Akkad Presents"...
However on the Blu-Ray release of one of the better films the franchise has offered up his name has been removed and the title card has been replaced(with the wrong font) with "Universal, an MCA Company presents"...
This I find horrendous!!!! Moustapha Akkad was one of the people who kept life in the franchise(even while some of the films were just plain horrible (Halloween 6 and Halloween Resurrection). He helped to bring to life one of horror's biggest monsters and this is how he is repaid by Universal who is gonna cash in on his work with the latest Blu-Ray release.
If there are any horror fans or even just fans of the series who are reading this page please let me know your thoughts on the blog page /

My Top 10 Horror Movie Death Scenes Pt. 25. Ghost Ship- Wire This one was quite disgusting as well. A bunch of dancers on a ship who all get sliced in half as a wire moves through them. Their torsos begin to slide of and there is blood everywhere. 4. Alien- Chestburster A bunch of crew members are sitting around eating a meal when one of them gets up due to stomache pains. He lays on the table and out of his chest pops a vicious alien creature. This scene is more cool than anything and it sets you up for the rest of the amazing sci-fi horror that is Alien 3. A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors- Puppet This is probably the most disgusting of the deaths in the whole Nightmare franchise. In a nightmare Freddy makes a puppet out of one of the teens but stringing them up by his veins and making him fall from the building to his death. 2. Scream- Drew Barrymore The opening of the Scream franchise is the best opening to any horror film out there. Drew Barrymore portrays Casey Becker a teenager about to have a movie night with her boyfriend Steve. Steve hasn’t shown up yet so she is making popcorn and gets a call from Ghostface, who torments her. Eventually Ghostface ends up killing Steve in front of Casey out on the patio. Then after a series of questios about scary movies the killer makes his move on Casey. The chase goes on for a few minutes until Casey is killed and hung inside out from a tree for her parents to see when they arrive at home literally as she is getting killed. The best part of this is that nobody expected Drew to be the first to die. 1.A Nightmare On Elm Street- Johnny Depp I name this my No. 1 death due to the fact that there ids literally blood everywhere and it has that same sort of feel when Glen’s(Johnny Depp) parents come into the room as when Casey Becker’s parents find her in Scream. This is the bloodiest scene in the movie and it demonstrates that Freddy Kruegar is not to be messed with. Glen is laying in bed falling asleep when he is sucked into the middle of his bed and a huge fountain of blood comes out of the middle of the bed and levitates to the ceiling, filling the room with blood. Glen is gone forever. This scene is also effective because now main character Nancy has no one to turn to in her battle against Freddy. |

My Top 10 Horror Movie Death Scenes Pt. 1
In anticipation of the new Final Destination film being released on Friday, I thought I would count down my top 10 death scenes from horror history. Here are numbers 10-6. Part 2 is coming tomorrow :)
10. Child's Play 2- Miss Kettlewell I have always believed this scene was the best in the Child's Play franchise, simply because it scared the crap out of me as a kid. The scene starts with Andy's teacher Miss Kettlewell becoming frustrated with him and locking Chucky in the closet and Andy in the classroom with him. Andy escapes the classroom through the window before Chucky can get out of the closet. But Miss Kettlewell returns to the room and when she cant find Andy she checks the closet where Chucky attacks her and then beats her with a yardstick. 9. Halloween- Bob I think I have always had an appreciation for this scene due to the fact that it shows more than any other death in Halloween just how messed up Michael is. When Bob goes looking for a beer and hears a noise he investigates by looking in the closet and then when he turns around Michael comes out of the other closet and pins him through the stomache with a kitchen knife into the door. Michael stands there and looks at him and admires his work. Chilling. 8. Saw II- Venus Fly Trap The Saw films have never really been all that scary. But they are quite disgusting yet entertaining. The venus fly trap scene in Saw II. This scene opens the film. A young man wakes up to find himself in a dark room with a large clamp-like contraption called the venus fly trap. Jigsaw then introduces himself to him via videtape and explains that i order to escape he has to find a key in order to take off the device that is on a timer, before it closes shut on his head and kills him. The key is hidden in the man's eye. He isn't successful. 7. Friday The 13th(2009)- Campfire I don't like this film although Friday The 13th is probably my favorite horror franchise. However, this film has a killer opening to it. A group of teenagers in the woods, as expected, some of them wander off while others stay at camp and take part in a sexual endeavor. Jason comes in with his bag-face and then kills the ones in the forest and comes to the campground and interupts the sex. After her boyfriend is killed the girl is hung in her sleeping bag from a tree over the burning campfire. It was a pretty intense opening, but the rest of the film did not follow suit. 6. Final Destination 2- Car/Log Scene This one is more on the action-packed side rather than the scary/creepy side. A bunch of logs fly of the back of a truck on the highway and cause a huge freak accident that sets up the whole film. It's just a well-done, super intense scene with multiple deaths at once. |
Pt. 2 will be ready for tomorrow! What will the top 5 be?

The Amazing Spider-Man Teaser Trailer Is Here!
The new teaser trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man has arrived. My thoughts on it are that it definately looks better than what I was expecting. However, that being said, I feel that this adaptation of Spider-Man looks like it will be too dark of a film. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films were always criticized because Spidey didn't have a big enough sense of humor as he does in the comic books and this trailer feels as is there is no humor at all. Hopefully, they can pull it together and bring in a good balance.

Zombieland 2 Becoming Less And Less Likely
This is news is slightly depressing for me. After the hit film Zombieland was released in 2009 director Ruben Fleischer was on board to do the sequel Zombieland 2, with the original cast to return. Unfortunately Fleischer has other projects on the go and has stated that he and company have yet to write a script that they have fallen in love with. Also Emma Stone and Woody Harrelson have signed on to The Amazing Spider-Man franchise and The Hunger Games respectively. Hopes for a second film down the road are still high though.

The New Captain America: The First Avenger Poster
I for one am excited about this film other than the look of Cap's costume but I guess it'll have to do. I think this poster looks awesome!
The most intriguing part of this film is definately it's villain, the Red Skull. The filmmakers did quite a good job on bringing the character to life it seems. Oh and of course who can forget the hidden gems at the end of every Marvel movie.
This is the last one before The Avengers let's make it count Marvel!!

An Even Better Look At Spidey Courtesy Of Entertainment Weekly
Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man will be released next July and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. Earlier this week Entertainment Weekly released some photos which are displayed in an earlier post on this page. And now there is more! They all look very interesting, especially with what I believe is happening to Dr. Kurt Conners in the last pic for this post. I still don't think this film will be as good as Sam Raimi's trilogy and isn't entirely necessary but maybe Mr. Webb and company can prove me wrong. A trailer for the film is coming next week.

"The Dark Knight Rises" First Teaser Poster
It's no surprise that I am excited about this film considering I walked out of The Dark Knight completely dumfounded by what I had just experienced. Of course at that point the star of the film, and yes he was the star, although a supporting character, Heath Ledger had already passed away. This lead to the question which villain will they use for the next film. That was answered by casting announcements stating that Tom Hardy(Inception) would play Bane and Anne Hathaway(The Devil Wears Prada) would play Catwoman. Since then, there has been much speculation about the plot of the film and when we would first see posters, trailers, and other teasers. Finally, two days ago we received the first teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises and tonight we will receive the teaser trailer in front of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2.
Low Resolution Amazing Spider-Man Photos
Ok so as angry as I am about Spidey getting a reboot, I still find these photos from Entertainment Weekly looking pretty awesome. The Amazing Spider-Man is set to be released next July. Two weeks before the highly anticipated Batman film The Dark Knight Rises
Evil Dead To Be Remade
Yes, one of my favorite horror classics is about to be remade. Fortunately the creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert of the original films are attached to produce the film along with series star Bruce Campbell. Let's hope the re-telling of the 1981 original will be as successful as possible.
